In full view of the world, millions of people in Gaza are facing deliberate starvation and destruction. This is not just war; it is a plan to systematically destroy human dignity. The cries of the people of Gaza, who struggle every day with hunger, thirst and bombs, echo despite global silence. Unfortunately, however, the Islamic world and the people of the world, especially the countries of the Middle East, are almost completely silent. The indifference of the leaders of Islamic countries is paving the way for the tragedy to continue.
Blockade, Hunger and Obstacles to Humanitarian Aid
Since October 2023, Gaza has been under a complete blockade by Israel. The cutting off of basic necessities such as water, food and electricity has condemned millions of people to hunger and despair. In March 2025, the blockade was tightened again, and humanitarian aid was almost completely blocked. The limited food aid provided by US-Israel-linked aid organisations is insufficient to prevent starvation. Moreover, the risk of being killed during aid distribution persists. The blockade, reminiscent of the Nazi era in Germany, is a clear example of collective punishment, which is defined as a war crime under international law.
Daily calorie intake in Gaza is far below the minimum set by the World Health Organisation. Babies are being fed leaves, while adults are chewing flour mixed with sand. The daily protein intake is also well below the critical level, leading to a tragic increase in infant and child mortality. Infant mortality due to malnutrition is at alarming levels. Humanitarian aid ships are threatened and blocked by Israel, and the fact that military protection cannot be provided to ships for humanitarian purposes raises serious questions about the conscience of the international community.
Nakba: Palestine's Historical Trauma
The 1948 Nakba marked the beginning of the forced displacement of the Palestinian people. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were driven from their lands, and the trauma has continued for generations. Today, more than six million Palestinians are struggling to survive as refugees. The blockade imposed on Gaza since 2007 is a continuation of historical oppression. The attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in 2010 became a symbol of international silence. The deep trauma caused by the Nakba is at the root of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Civilian Casualties, Massacres and Forced Displacement
During 20 months of attacks, more than 54,000 Palestinians lost their lives, a third of whom were children. Civilian casualties and the targeting of health workers constitute war crimes under international law. Incidents such as the Rafah Tent Massacre and the shooting of civilians searching for food are examples of systematic civilian massacres.
Millions of people were forcibly displaced and pushed into unliveable conditions. 1.1 million Palestinians were ordered to leave northern Gaza, but no safe evacuation was provided. Cultural and historical heritage is also being systematically destroyed; universities, museums and cemeteries are being targeted. This is a strategy of ethnic cleansing and identity erasure.
Historical Parallels and Genocide Allegations
The Hunger Plan implemented by Nazi Germany in the Soviet Union was a systematic genocide strategy aimed at starving millions of people to death. The plan deliberately sought to starve the Soviet people, while the most fertile agricultural regions were plundered for German soldiers, leaving the population to starve. While Germans received full rations, Poles received 70%, Greeks 30%, and Jews only 20% of food. Soviet prisoners of war were deliberately condemned to starvation. The plan led to the deaths of millions of people and is considered one of the darkest examples of genocide in human history.
What is happening in Gaza today is a replay of the horrific Nazi history. The process of driving the entire population into starvation is rewriting one of the darkest pages in human history. Starvation in Gaza is not just a humanitarian crisis; it is a deliberate tool of genocide.
Despite genocide experts pointing to evidence of a strategy aimed at the extermination of Palestinians and Israeli officials openly stating their intentions in inhumane statements, there is still debate over whether Israel's actions will be defined as genocide by the International Court of Justice.
International Silence and the Indifference of the Islamic World
Middle Eastern countries and the Islamic world are maintaining their silence in the face of the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza. Most leaders are turning a blind eye to the oppression for the sake of political interests and regional calculations. The majority of the Islamic world remains ineffective in the face of the blood and tears of their brothers. This indifference is not only a great betrayal of the Palestinian people but also of the dignity of all humanity. The international community, and especially Islamic countries, must act urgently to break the silence.
The Israeli People's Betrayal of Conscience
The Israeli people continue to remain silent in the face of the genocide taking place. By failing to oppose the crimes against humanity committed by their own country, they are turning a blind eye to the massacres in Gaza. The peace rhetoric of Jews in the diaspora does not reflect their true stance. Just as German anti-fascists did during the darkest periods of history, thousands of people today must say ‘no to genocide.’
In conclusion, what is happening in Gaza is one of the darkest stains on human history. Remaining silent is the greatest betrayal of human dignity. The Turkish people and the world must become aware, question, and, if necessary, take action towards Gaza to disrupt this dark game. Every individual must stand against oppression at the social and national levels and be a defender of justice.
